About us

We help the Peruvians who need it the most

We are a non-governmental organization (NGO) that recycles plastic to protect the environment. We transform plastic bottles into polyester fiber that is then converted into blankets, ponchos, and socks that are donated to communities in extreme poverty.

We Create Awareness

Millions of Peruvians want to help but don’t know how. We provide them with a way of not only helping people in need but also learning about the importance of recycling. Today in Peru, recycling is not considered a priority that’s why through recycling campaigns and environmental awareness initiatives we teach the importance of recycling and the impact we can create together. We also promote the reduction of plastic use.

Did you know…

… that in Peru 20 thousand tons of solid waste is generated daily and only 15% is recycled?

We want to be part of the change!

We educate. We recycle. We help.

In the absence of a national recycling system, we took the responsibility of collecting the plastic waste in our community. However, our mission to humanize Peru goes beyond that. That is why to achieve our mission, it is necessary to follow certain steps. The first step is to educate ourselves about what happens on our planet and the opportunities we have to generate a positive impact. After educating ourselves, we take action by recycling our waste to prevent it from damaging our environment. Finally, we make sure to close the cycle by helping vulnerable Peruvians with blankets, ponchos, and socks. This way, we provide a sustainable platform where the smallest grain of sand contributes to a change.

How did it all begin?

Our Story

It all began in 2016 when we were 13 years old. We were four friends: Ainoha, Francesco, Marcelo, and Miguel, all with the dream of creating a social project to help Peru. Without knowing exactly what to do, we started researching the problems in our country, and that’s when we learned that we faced severe issues of pollution and poverty. So, we sought a solution. After months of research, we decided to embark on a project that involved recycling plastic bottles and turning them into blankets that would later be donated to the most in need in our country. That’s how Ayudando Abrigando was born.

In early 2018, with a little over a year of operation, two friends approached us who were interested in our work. They asked us about the production process, and after explaining it in detail, they inquired about what we did with the scraps from the blankets. At that moment, we realized the importance of these scraps. It was then that Julian and Pedro proposed making ponchos and socks from these scraps, resulting in the integration of these two new members into the group.

One of the most rewarding experiences for us is keeping the NGO under the leadership of young people between 13 and 18 years old, which allows us to preserve our essence year after year.

In January 2023, we welcomed new leaders, Luana, Daniel, Emiliano, and Salvador, who took on the responsibility of leading our organization. Their arrival marked a significant milestone as it allowed us to diversify our production line by adding knitted items like polo shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, and caps. This expansion has enabled us to extend our assistance even to the Peruvian jungle.

Furthermore, this year, we are celebrating a notable achievement: our first export of clothing to hospitals in the United States. It fills us with satisfaction to know that our garments are providing warmth and support to children undergoing chemotherapy.

In our NGO, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating a warmer and more compassionate world, always under the inspiring leadership of young individuals like Luana, Daniel, Emiliano, and Salvador.

Passion for Helping

The simple acts in life are what complete our happiness. Behind each donation, there is hard work that requires hours of commitment. Despite everything, seeing the people and all their smiles when making a donation makes all our work compensate for an incredible experience. Our deliveries go beyond just delivering warm clothing and apparel. We believe that the most important thing is to create a relationship with the people we are helping. Moments like these fulfill us with joy. Having the opportunity to share with people from all over Peru shows us how culturally rich our country is and the wonderful people who are part of it.
